The Craighead County Jail

(Captain T (Tom Hunnicutt))
The Craighead County Jail
By Tom Hunnicutt
(Key C)

1st Verse

I got busted down in Hoxie – locked up in Walnut Ridge.
They freed me on Monday - so I got drunk again.
Then I was headed down to Jonesboro to have a little fun,
But I ended up in trouble and The Craighead County Jail.

Chorus

But The Craighead County Jail proved a blessing to me.
Cause in that old jailhouse - I got down on my knees.
For I had reached the bottom – I was the lowest of the low,
When Jesus touched my heart and (saved) (freed) my sinful soul.

2nd Verse

Now in that lonely cell sat an old man next to me.
He asked if I knew Jesus? I said no sir-ree.
He said you know he loves you? I said that cannot be,
Cause if he truly loved me – then he’d come and set me free.

3rd Verse

Then he told me a story about a Father and His son.
How He sent him to this world to save us each and everyone.
You say he’s done nothing - because you cannot see,
But his only son was murdered for the likes of you and me.

4th Verse

When I woke up next morning - I found I was a lone.
So I asked the jailer there - where has the old man gone?
He said son you’re mistaken - you’ve been here all alone.
Then I heard the old man whisper – but son you know he’s wrong.
