Spring River Eulogy

(Captain T (Tom Hunnicutt))
SPRING RIVER EULOGY

By Tom Hunnicutt

(Key of E)

1 Verse

I recall the old Spring River – where I was borned and raised.
Where I worked in the corn and I worked in the hay.
And playing in the barn – chasing pretty Petty Brown,
and jumping in that river when all our chores were done.

Chorus

Roll on Spring River, roll on, roll on,
On down passed my Ozark Mountain Home.
Across the fields and around the bend,
Roll on Spring River, roll on, roll on.

2nd Verse

I can see the fire blazin’ up on the ridge line high,
and hear the hounds a baying as they run throughout the night.
And sitting round the camp fires listing to the tales,
And we could sip on their whiskey if we promised not to tell.

3rd Verse

My mama was a good one - she worked hard all her life.
She’d pick them old black berries and she canned them all by night.
She read her Bible daily and prayed most every day,
And she took us to the river come revival day.

Special verse

And there’s a trail that comes through here,
the Indians called it the Trail of Tears.
For the Cherokee did roam this land,
From old Black River up passed Mammoth Springs.
