Plastic Neon Town
By Tom Hunnicutt & George E. Beetham, Jr.
1st Verse
I was walking down the sidewalk of a Plastic Neon Town.
Tin cans lined the sidewalks and the paper blew around.
All the people were frowning as they looked me up and down,
I felt the cold and the hardness of a Plastic Neon Town.
2nd Verse
Now some people stood there talking, but they didn’t say a word.
And the children they were playing, but no voices could be heard.
The men were working on their cars and it really was absurd,
Can’t tell if I was dreaming or my vision just got blurred.
Chorus
I wonder if that plastic town has ever heard of love;
I wonder if those silent folks can see the sky above;
I wonder if they ever heard the mourning of a dove;
Yes, I wonder if that Neon Town has ever heard of love?
3rd Verse
I was walking down the sidewalk of a Plastic Neon Town.
Tin cans lined the sidewalks and the paper blew around.
All the people were frowning as they looked me up and down.
I wonder how they can live in that Plastic Neon Town?
