Purple Hearts & Silver Stars

Purple Hearts and Silver Stars
By Tom Hunnicutt

Chorus

Purple Hearts and Silver Stars,
Canada or behind closed bars.
Who is right and what is wrong?
I wonder who the heroes are?

1st Verse
When I grew up I went to war to do my patriotic chore,
Then I returned a hero’s son – folks at home said a job well done,
But other they refused to fight, they went to jail or had to hide.
They didn’t want to kill their kind, now what’s that line about –
the Golden Rule.

2nd Verse
Now Christians they talk of peace, they say to turn the other cheek,
But most don’t practice what they preach;
Oh, I wonder what their teacher thinks?
A man was coming down the trail, I couldn’t see his face to well.
Then I blew him staight to hell, Now what’s that line about –
thy shall not kill?

3rd Verse
But wars are fought and men must die, we learn that fact early in life;
Yet, greed is still around today, if you don’t agree, go ask an Indian.
For Hitler couldn’t stand alone, someone had to tote his guns,
He couldn’t kill them Jews alone – Now what’s that line about –
a patriot’s son.
