For God, Country & Our Corps
(Captain T (Tom Hunnicutt))
FOR GOD, COUNTRY & OUR CORPS
By Tom Hunnicutt
On a lonely hill near O;’ Kha Sanh,
I once weeped over body bags,
For friends I know – who gave their all,
For God and Country and our Corps.
On a dusty trail where I once killed,
For forgotten freedoms I bowed my head,
Where Marines had died – they’d fight no more,
For God and Country and Our Corps.
On a deary field near Con Thien,
I once knelt on bended knees,
And prayed to God to keep me strong,
For God and Country, and Our Corps.
On another night long after Tet,
This war did end in a shameful way,
For many died on forgotten hills,
For God and Country and Our Corps.
Now on lonely nights I sit and stare,
And ponder why we went to war,
Yet, understand – it was duty’s call,
For God and Country and Our Corps.
Thus, I know we’d rasie again,
To fight in wars as we once did,
For when duty calls – Marines come forth,
For God and Country, and Our Corps.
